Chelo Manchego was born February 15, 1993 in El Pulgarcito (the little thumb) of Central America, El Salvador. He attended an English school and completed the International Baccalaureate, focusing in literature and the visual arts. His artwork won the international Young Writers UK Express Yourself competition and was published in the 2009 volume.
When he was eighteen years old he moved to Los Angeles, California. While studying theater at the New York Film Academy, he lived in a Buddhist temple near the L.A. River, where he still volunteers at the meditation class for children. The kids inspired him to write and illustrate his own stories and he went back to college to focus on children’s literature.
While attending Pasadena City College his art was selected for the student juried exhibition and his poem While You Keep Going Straight was published in the college’s 2017 literary magazine Inscape.
He is the author-illustrator of The Want Monsters: And How They Stopped Ruling My World (2017) and Little Royal: A Fish Tale (2017), both released by Shambhala Publications.
